February 6, 2026 – Makati City, Philippines

Fishta Seafood Inc. joined over 20 representatives from government agencies, seafood industry leaders, and development organizations at the February 6 Inception Meeting launching Building Inclusive and Climate-Resilient Seafood Value Chains through Responsible Seafood Sourcing (ValueSeas), a project led by Bluer Seas Philippines under the Climate and Ocean Adaptation and Sustainable Transition (COAST) Facility Philippines.

The initiative brings together market actors and public institutions to strengthen responsible seafood trade, while improving livelihoods for small-scale fishing communities and promoting sustainable fisheries practices. Guided by Responsible Seafood Sourcing (RSS) Standard, the project supports seafood supply chains that meet standards for legal compliance, traceability, sustainability commitment, and human & social welfare.
During the event, Fishta General Manager Carina Ong-Tan shared the company’s journey in adopting RSS and its continuing efforts to raise awareness on issues such as illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and responsible seafood consumption. As one of the country’s leading seafood distributors since 2008, Fishta remains committed to advancing responsible sourcing and stands behind COAST Philippines and Bluer Seas in promoting transparency and sustainability across seafood value chains.

Since 2022, Fishta has opened six new direct sourcing partnerships with local fishing communities and developed a corporate seafood procurement policy aligned with RSS. Furthermore, Fishta introduced its 100% TLS (Traceable and Locally Sourced) seafood line in leading supermarkets nationwide in 2024, as a further demonstration of its commitment to increasing its seafood volume coming from traceable sources.
Through partnerships with fishing communities and the ValueSeas project, Fishta aims to make responsibly sourced seafood more accessible to Filipino consumers while contributing to long-term ocean health and prosperous communities.

The ValueSeas project is supported under the COAST Facility Philippines, part of the wider Climate and Ocean Adaptation and Sustainable Transition (COAST) programme funded by the UK Government and implemented by DAI Global in partnership with the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), to strengthen climate resilience in vulnerable coastal communities by protecting ecosystems, improving governance, and promoting inclusive and sustainable livelihoods.
